It's 1:00 AM on a Tuesday, and Jordan Smith, the dedicated owner of Lil Donut Factory, is arriving at work. This early start is part of his daily routine, ensuring that the wide variety of mouthwatering treats pictured above are ready to greet eager customers—often selling out well before noon.
Lil Donut Factory has been a beloved fixture at its current location since 2009, situated near the southwest corner of Scioto-Darby Rd. and Leap Rd., right next to Nasty’s Sports Bar & Restaurant. When Jordan and his wife Bekah purchased the Hilliard business, they were confident that their combined backgrounds in food service would help them succeed.
One of the key reasons they chose to run their own business rather than work for a corporation was the freedom it provided to grow the business on their own terms. This included their commitment to investing in their employees by offering fair wages, rather than merely adhering to state minimum wage laws—a practice often seen in larger corporations.
When asked what he enjoys most about Hilliard, Jordan highlighted the community’s growth and evolving identity over the past 15 years. He appreciates the energy of the area but expressed a desire for a more efficient and transparent local government, emphasizing the importance of integrity.
Regarding their philosophy on supporting local community events, Jordan shared his admiration for Hilliard's active groups, which offer residents plenty of opportunities to get involved. He also suggested that better intercommunication among these groups could be achieved through "ward" representation on the city council, which would allow for a more structured exchange of information, keeping everyone well-informed.
The Lil Donut Factory’s mission is simple but strong: to provide "handmade, locally owned, fresh daily" products, with a reliable opening time that customers can depend on.
To connect with the community, Jordan and Bekah chose to focus on building a dynamic social media presence, particularly on Facebook, to reflect their "fresh daily" philosophy.
Together, Jordan and Bekah make a great team. Jordan handles the "backend" donut production, while Bekah manages the "front end" sales, allowing them to share the workload and keep their family-owned business thriving.
If you haven’t stopped by yet, be sure to give them a try—but go early for the best selection! Their ongoing generosity and steadfast support of the Hilliard Ohio Historical Society are deeply appreciated..
