What do the Volunteer Opportunities Look Like?

•Museum/Village Tours - If you love history and are seeking the opportunity to share that passion with visitors, this position may be the perfect fit for you! Our tour guides and docents educate the public on the history of Hilliard and life in the 1800s , during both special events and our guided tours throughout the year.

•Education Programs - Our Education Volunteers work with groups of school children (primarily 3rd grade), to give them an engaging and educational experience of what life was like for people who lived during the 1800s. Our Education Programs emphasize hands on activities to keep children engaged as they learn. Availability for these programs is traditionally Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9 a.m. and noon, April-May and September-October.

•Gift Shop - Cashiers and merchandisers are always needed during our normal operating hours and special events. From greeting visitors in our gift shop and answering questions about the Museum & Village to selling merchandise, admissions, and memberships. There is always something to do and someone willing to train you!

•Office/Administrative Support - Typing, filing, copying, preparing mailings, shelving…. there are a lot of projects going on daily in the Archival Library and its office! Availability is usually Tuesday and Thursday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

•Maintenance/Grounds Work - Whether you enjoy carpentry, painting, landscaping, or any other similar activities, there are always projects available at the Museum & Village both inside and out.

•Collections Support - In addition to the preservation and documentation of the artifacts we already possess, new pieces are regularly being donated to our collection which you'll help to assess, document, organize, preserve, etc. (Experience is appreciated, but not required).

•Research Support - Whatever your interest in the history of Hilliard, adding additional knowledge and information to ours is a fantastic way to leave your mark in the Hilliard Ohio Historical Society . You will be able to complete research remotely and on you own schedule, supplying the museum with copies of all research compiled. Additionally, your knowledge and expertise may be utilized to create exhibits or develop presentations on the material.

•Volunteer in the Garden - We are looking for volunteers to help in the garden. You can help with watering, weeding, or other tasks. You can volunteer for one day or multiple days. Some tasks don’t have a set time.

•Special Events - While there are many year-round volunteer opportunities, we depend on volunteers for events such as Haunted Village, Santa & Mrs. Claus at the Train Station, Heritage Day, and Arts and Crafts Festival. We understand you may chose to volunteer for special events only. Our special events volunteers do everything from admissions and concessions to dressing in period clothing, giving tours of historic buildings or doing 19th century demonstrations, to dressing up as fun and spooky characters for the Haunted Village!
