Bears Bagels: A Passion for Authenticity and Community

Lo “Mama Bear” and Charis “Bear” Yost launched Bears Bagels in 2022, fueled by a love for bagels born during the COVID-19 pandemic. While cooped up at home, Charis – who had already mastered the art of bread making, was challenged by Lo to tackle making bagels. The results were so exceptional that the duo decided to start a cottage food business in their home kitchen. Demand quickly outgrew their space, prompting a move to a commercial kitchen.

“Our goal was to create artisanal bagel the real way: hand-rolled, rested for 24 hours, boiled, and baked,” said Lo.

Thanks to a friend, they found a commercial kitchen to continue their craft. From those humble beginnings, Bears Bagels flourished, and the Yost’s began searching for the perfect location to establish a brick-and-mortar store.

They chose Hilliard for its close-knit community vibe and its mix of young families and long-time residents. When a storefront on Main Street became available, they knew it was the perfect spot to bring their vision to life.

The shop quickly became a neighborhood favorite, attracting a diverse clientele. Regulars return for their favorite bagels or bialys, while adventurous newcomers enjoy working their way through the creative menu.

“Our team is awesome, and we can’t wait to serve you delicious bagels,” Lo said.
