Peggy Trump and her husband, Dan, have been dedicated members of the Hilliard Ohio Historical Society since 2014, actively contributing to various aspects of the organization. Peggy currently serves on the Society’s Board of Directors.
Residents of Hilliard for forty years, Peggy and Dan first moved to the area in search of their own home. Reflecting on their decision, Peggy shared, “After living in a couple of apartments in Columbus after getting married, we wanted to take the leap into home ownership. Since both of us grew up on the west side of Columbus and our parents were still there, we didn't want to be too far away.”
What Peggy loves most about Hilliard is its ability to maintain a small-town feel despite its growth. “We've always had wonderful neighbors who have become lifelong friends,” she said.
Their journey with the Hilliard Ohio Historical Society began with a walking tour of Old Hilliard, which sparked their interest in the town’s rich history. “We had lived here for almost 30 years but knew very little about the town,” Peggy admitted. That experience inspired their deep involvement in the Society.
Peggy has played a vital role as a tour guide in the historical village, where she enjoys sharing Hilliard’s history with others. “We have met some of the most amazing people who also volunteer for the Society,” she added.
Among her favorite activities are the historical village events, which she volunteers for whenever her schedule allows. “Halloween in the village is so much fun. I couldn’t volunteer last year, but I brought my granddaughters, and they are still talking about it,” she shared. However, her most cherished moments come during the tree lighting and Santa in the train station. “Portraying Mrs. Claus is the highlight of my season—and my year,” she said. “The look of magic in the children’s eyes when they see me and share their wish lists is priceless! Watching them interact with Santa in the train station is just as wonderful.”
For Peggy, being part of the Hilliard Ohio Historical Society has been an incredibly fulfilling way to connect with the community and contribute to preserving its heritage.
In addition to her work with the Society, Peggy also serves as a tour guide at the Ohio Statehouse in downtown Columbus, further demonstrating her passion for history and education.
